College ShowerSM

We recognize the importance of celebrating girls who beat the odds, break stereotypes and are positive role models. At the College Shower, the graduates’ family, friends and supporters celebrate their achievements and support them as they continue to prove that they are strong, smart and bold!

A note from Judith R, 2006 College Shower Honoree:

"This spring I will be graduating with a BA in Psychology from Hunter College! When I was honored at the College Shower in 2006, I was among the first generation in my family to go to college. My mother immigrated to NY from Haiti and didn't know much about the college admissions procedure. Without the emotional and tangible support I received from Girls' Inc. none of that would have been possible. Being surrounded by other young women who had overcome similar struggle to mine and knowing that Girls Inc cared about my success made a huge difference. When I graduated high school, I didn't know anything about dorm life, nor could I afford to get all the dorm paraphernalia that was so generously lavished upon me during the College Shower. I am infinitely grateful to this organization and I would love to come back and speak on a college panel!"
