MEDIA LITERACY
Media Literacy
Students build a critical awareness of mass media and its effects on girls and women.
Our media literacy program enables students to increase their awareness of the scope and power of the media and the effects of media messages on girls and women. Students learn to analyze what they see and hear in the media, discern reliable sources of information, and advocate for change in entertainment, news, and advertising. They also learn about media-related careers and the positive use of the media. Through interactive, hands-on projects and discussions, students dissect and re-evaluate tropes associated with gender, race, class, and other identities. Aside from developing analytical skills, students create their own multimedia projects in film, photography, and audio recording.
