From the CEO's desk...

It's hard to believe, but it's that time of the year again. Here we are at the beginning of a new school year. I’m pleased to report that Girls Inc. of New York City (GINYC) had a very full, productive summer—great preparation for the start of a new school season, making new inroads to develop female leaders.

We held our annual Eureka! Institute for girls who want to learn STEM, specifically Moody’s Data Analytics or G3, Generation Giga Girls. The support provided by Moody’s for G3, has helped bring STEM to a new level in GINYC programming: for the past two years, one third of our graduates go on to major in STEM fields in college. Girls see data as creative and empowering. They even learn to design with data.

To make sure we prepare 8th and 9th grade girls to succeed in their study of data analytics in high school, this summer we piloted the brand new program Pre-G3: The Elsevier Data Analytics Preparatory Program. Thanks to Elsevier’s generosity, we are ensuring more girls have access to the vital new field of Data Analytics. As one 8th grader put it, “We learned that data is everywhere. It’s almost as important as water!” We were delighted that Ylann Schlemm, Director of the Elsevier Foundation, flew in from Amsterdam to see the program in action.

In spite of the challenges in the current climate, the enthusiasm, emotional support, and involvement of the GINYC staff continues to inspire girls to do their best. For example, 100% of this year’s graduating seniors were admitted to college.

I encourage you to take the time from your busy schedule to become familiar with our programs by visiting our website, and even attend some of our upcoming coming programs. Meanwhile, give us a call, we’d love to tell you how to get involved.

In closing, thank you for your support to and I look forward to sharing our progress with you in the very near future.
