Our New York City community is facing problems that Girls Inc. of New York City is trying to fix. We educate, inspire, nurture and heal with programs like the Mind Body Connection, which helps girls deal with the trauma in their lives, and Moody’s Data Analytics, which teaches girls all about Big Data. We help thousands of girls throughout the city to become financially literate, and to follow their dreams.
For girls like Bria, whose mother is serving life in prison, or Shantia, whose parents put her in a foster home at an early age, or Tiara, whose lack of self-acceptance of being black, led to serious anxiety and depression, Girls Inc. of New York City is a lifeline.
This year our focus is on mental health. Girls in New York City and nationwide are experiencing a mental health crisis, with serious increases in suicide, suicide ideation, anxiety and depression. While we are actively working to improve girls’ mental health, to lift girls out of poverty and develop female leaders, we need your help to make our efforts go even further. Out of the $426 billion that goes to philanthropy in the US, only 1.6% goes toward girls and women’s causes.
Organizations like Girls Inc. of New York City are engines of social change. We’re sowing important seeds of change: equality for women, racial equality, and economic equality—bridging the gap between the haves and the have nots. Your support is crucial to our efforts. We are beating the odds: the great majority of girls in our programs go on to college, and one third of them major in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and math).
If you are able to, we’d love if you could donate to invest in our growth, and help us alleviate problems in the New York City community, lift more girls out of poverty and create more female leaders.
Thank you in advance for your contribution. Your donation will go toward improving the mental health and resulting academic performance of many, many girls throughout the city.
