Here's a message from our CEO Dr. Pamela Maraldo during the current pandemic...

To Our Supporters...

On behalf of our board and staff, we hope this finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy during these challenging times.

We are pleased to let you know that we are in full swing, delivering our programs by remote learning platforms throughout the school day, to girls all over the city. Our digitized programs like G3, our Moody’s Data Analytics program, and our Mind-Body Matters—highly interactive, using engaging avatars and real-life vignettes—are uniquely suited to be delivered on virtual platforms.

Also being delivered online are Healthy Sexuality, Project REACH, our college readiness and retention program, Pre G3: the Elsevier Pre Data Analytics program, and Project BOLD, for self-defense and martial arts. Our program specialists are also conducting daily wellness calls, incorporating music and dance and other creative activities. Girls Inc., our national organization, is so impressed with our staff's rapid response to the crisis they are circulating our virtual curricula to affiliates across the country.

The girls we serve come from communities and families hardest hit by the crisis. The epidemic is shining a spotlight on all the weaknesses in a frayed social safety net. Many girls live with single parents who are service workers in restaurants, schools, and workplaces at high risk, like hospitals. Many of these parents have been laid off. Other girls are home alone because their parents work in an essential service industry.

It’s a critical time for losing ground—for dropping out of school. Our programming will continue remotely, along with the counseling and coaching that is essential to preventing the possibility of dropout.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our funders and supporters like you, Girls Inc. of New York City will weather this storm.

With the safety of our donors and partners and staff in mind, we have made the decision to cancel our festive Gala at Cipriani’s, and hold a “virtual” Spring Gathering instead. We hope you will all be able to join us on May 14th. All of us are eager to come together, we want to share everything we’re doing during the crisis. Stay tuned for more information on how and when to tune in.

Thank you all for your support, and please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions, concerns...or well wishes. We are in this together!

Wishing you and yours safety and health,

Cali Cole

Our Mission

Girls Inc. of New York City is a girl serving non-profit organization in NYC. We inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold, through direct service and advocacy. We focus on the development of the whole girl where she learns to value herself, take risks, and discover and develop her inherent strengths. The combination of long-lasting mentoring relationships, a pro-girl environment, and research-based programming equips girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers, and grow up healthy, educated, and independent. Informed by girls and their families, we also advocate for legislation and policies to increase opportunities and rights for all girls.

The Girls Inc.

Girls Grow Up Strong

Girls Inc. teaches healthy living so girls are able to make informed decisions.

Girls Grow Up Smart

Girls Inc. provides academic enrichment so girls increase their love of learning.

Girls Grow Up Bold

Girls build life skills to set and achieve goals.

Girls Inc. serves girls ages 6 – 18 from diverse ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds.

45% of girls served are ages 12 – 18, a reflection of our focus on serving girls during developmentally crucial years of middle and high school.

70% identify as girls of color. Nearly 65% of the girls we serve live in families earning $30,000 or less a year, and 11% live in a household with an annual income of $10,000 or less.

At its very heart,

Girls Inc. of New York City

is about offering girls the opportunity to discover their intellectual and emotional strengths. We inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold!
